The General Zapped an Angel
1970
William Morrow
Review by Peter Young on Live Journal (July 2011).
Nine stories, predominantly more SF than fantasy. I picked up this collection mostly for the title story, possibly his most famous short piece, a Vietnam anti-war fantasy and for my money the best here. Several are equally potent tales such as 'The Wound' and 'The Insects' which both possess a strong environmentalist slant. One story didn't work for me at all, 'The Movie House', an 'enclosed world' fantasy about a small society of odd people who have never left a downtown cinema. This was actually stronger set of stories than were contained in Fast's later collection A Touch of Infinity.
